The importance of aquarium plants cannot be underestimated. They are as important as the fish is for the aquarium. Plants make the aquarium look beautiful. They give a complete look to the aquarium and add life to it. However you need to keep certain things in mind while putting the plants in the aquarium. Your aim should be to create a striking background in the aquarium. Planting should be done in such a way that enough space is left for the fishes to swim. Grassy and tall plants should be planted in rows at regular intervals. The feathery plants however look better in a bunch; it gives them the appearance of branching bushes.
You should be careful while plating rooted plants. The bunch of the roots should be held between your thumb and your second finger and they should then be put on sand. With the help of your first finger, the upper portion of the roots should be pushed in to the sand. Push it up to two centimeter into the sand. Now don't move this finger and with the help of your thumb and second finger put little amount of sand over the uncovered parts of the root. You can follow the same procedure when you are putting plants which are rootless in bunches in the aquarium. However in this case, the lower parts of the stem are sited together and they are treated in the same way as the roots. The water level should be up to the lower border of the top angle iron of the tank. This is important so that the water level cannot be seen from the front and the onlookers get an impression that the aquarium is without water. The aquarium will look like a tank containing water if the water level goes below the level of top angle iron. |
