There are several kinds of fish tank fishes available in aquarium stores. The most popular fish tank fishes are tropical fishes. They are quite hardy and breed easily. They also have no difficulty in getting acclimatized to artificial aquatic environments. All that they need is warm water. The maintenance of fish tank fishes is very easy. They can be fed small black worms, dried fish flakes, frozen flakes, small snails, clams and shrimps.

The feeding material can be purchased from a pet store or an aquariums store. It can also be bought online. Some of the common tropical fish tank fishes are Arowana, Cichlids, Bala Sharks, Barracuda, Barbs, Betta males and females, Black and White Tiger Fish, White Clouds, White Tip Shark Catfish, Rainbow Fish, Clown Loaches, Guppies, Catfish, Mollies, Platies and Rainbow Fish.

Arowana, which are also known as the Dragon Fish, can grow to a length of 36 inches. They are compatible with Tinfoil Barbs and Catfish. Cichlids, otherwise known as Angel Fish, can grow both in freshwater and saltwater easily. They are small and come in some very pleasing colors. They can grow up to 12 inches and make great fish tank fishes.

The other common fish tank fishes are Barracuda. However, these are predatory by nature and tend to feed on smaller fish. They grow to a maximum size of 9 inches, and should be kept with fishes that are bigger than them. Rainbow fishes are another variety of fish tank fishes. They are brightly colored, hardy fishes and make ideal companions for Mollies, Platies, Swordtails and Catfish.

No fish tank is ever complete without Gold Fish and Koi. The Gold fish including Orandas, Fantails, Telescopes and Black Moors are excellent fish tank fishes. They grow well in fish tanks and are mild tempered. They also have a life span of about 20 years.

The Koi too are beautiful fish tank fishes though they are more suited for large aquariums. This is because most of them are 15 inches in length or bigger and have an average life span of 15- 20 years. Scavengers and Catfish are equally important fish tank fishes. They help in keeping the fish tank clean by feeding on algae.
